Eco Beach wins multiple categories at WA Tourism Awards!

Eco Beach were named as winners in the categories of Indigenous Tourism, Unique Accommodation and the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the 2010 WA Tourism Awards ceremony on Saturday night. A silver award was also received for Eco Tourism.

The news comes with much excitement after having been recognised and becoming multi award winners at the Australia's North West Tourism Awards earlier this year as well as receiving two awards, Best Tourism Initiative and Best Environmental Initiative, at the Australian Hotel Association Awards earlier in the month.

“We’re absolutely delighted with this result. There are so many fantastic tourism businesses out there and we were up against some tough competition.” said Eco Beach Managing Director, Karl Plunkett. He went on to say that the huge number of winners from the Kimberley region was a testament to the fantastic products and experiences on offer in the region.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of Cyclone Rosita which destroyed the original Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat. The category 5 tropical cyclone, the most powerful cyclone ever to cross the Australian coast, hit on the 19th April 2000 decimating the original resort.

At the end of May last year Eco Beach reopened, the new retreat features stunning villas, luxury tents, an infinity edge pool and an awe inspiring ocean front bar and restaurant. It has been designed in such a way that there is absolute minimal impact on its breathtaking natural surrounds and is certainly one of the world’s most remarkable destinations.

The prestigious WA Tourism Awards incorporating the Sir David Brand Awards, in their 38th year, are hosted by Tourism Council WA and recognise excellence within the WA tourism industry. The wins see Eco Beach automatically entered in to the National Tourism Awards which are held in Perth in March 2011.
