| Our ratings, whether it is for a resort, hotel, restaurant or airline, are based on a large variety of factors, including everything from first impression and location, to service and overall enjoyment. We rate each property/restaurant/airline in over a dozen different categories and give them a score base on our experience. A perfect score is 100. |
| Our ratings originally were broken down into three categories: |

| But, over the years, we found that too many were ending up "in the middle", plus we found some that were so outstanding that we needed to have a way to make them stand out. To fix these two issues, we came up with our new rating system: |
 - This is the type of place we would go out of our way for, whether it was a resort or hotel, or a restaurant, we'd make special plans to get there. If it were an airline, we'd pay more for the flight or take it even if it wasn't the best timing. To be rated Fantastic Bombastic, the property/restaurant/airline must get a score of 98 or higher. |
 - This again is a type of place we would travel across town (or in some case, across the country) to visit. It is perfect in almost every way and would have a score of between 91 and 98. |
 - This is a place we would recommend. There were flaws, but overall it was a place (or airline) we would recommend. To get this rating, they would need to score 82-90. |
 - This is a place we would recommend only when you have no other options. They would have failed in many areas and our overall satisfaction would be very low. A score of 75-81 would garner them an Almost Not Bombastic rating. |
 - This is a place (or airline) to avoid at all costs. Our experience would have been bad (or horrible) from start to end. Typically these are places that are screaming for a management change! If they score fewer than 75 points, we list them as Not Bombastic! |
