Benihana Sushi Restaurant at Le Meridien Hotel - Amman, Jordan - Rated as the number one Sushi Restaurant in Jordan at the 2006 Grumpy Gourmet Awards, Benihana Sushi Restaurant rated among one of the worst sushi restaurants I have ever been to.

My first instinct was not to go to a "chain" sushi restaurant but I thought if it was rated as number one than it should be good. Wow, was I ever mistaken.

My first clues to how good a sushi restaurant is, is based on two things; number one, their decor/atmosphere and number two, their edamame. In this case, Benihana had neither. Even before we opened our first bottle of water we contemplated leaving. I guess we should have followed our instincts.

Service was not only poor, it was annoying. The waitress hovering on our backs and having to explain ourselves multiple times, only to get an answer "we can cut it in to eight pieces instead if you'd like". We were asking if we could add shrimp tempura!

The eel was fishy and the rolls boring and pretty much tasteless. The only saving grace was the special roll we requested, made by the sushi chef himself, not his assistants.

Overall, it was an extremely disappointing experience. If this is the best sushi Jordan has to offer, I say just open a can of tuna. It'll be less expensive and just as good.
