Grand Café Horta Antwerp, Belgium: When Hotel Firean recommended Café Horta as a great place for lunch but I a bit skeptical that it would be as good as they said.

As we got close to the Café Horta I was tempted to get something to eat in the large square across the street, it looked like the perfect place to take in the sites. I decided to stick to our original plans and try Horta and to say I was wowed, would be an understatement.

We got there about 1:00 PM and the outside tables were full but it was a beautiful October day so we decided to wait for a table to open up so we could enjoy the weather and the view. After seeing the inside, we would have been just as happy there. It is gorgeous. Luckily, it was just a few minutes for a table to open up for us.

After seeing how beautiful Horta was, we decide to make it an afternoon to remember and ordered us a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. Their menu is extensive with a large offering of soups, salads, pastas, sandwiches and entrees. We decided upon the trio of soups (quail, pumpkin and bisque) and ravioli.

Little did we know that a beautiful appetizer of cheeses and lobster salad came complimentary with the Champagne, what a beautiful and delectable surprise. Had we known, we would have skipped the soup, but after tasting the three different soups, we were happy we did not miss them. It was hard to decide which was better, the bisque or the quail egg. In the end, I chose the quail, full of flavor and not something you see on the menu very often.

When our pastas came out we knew we had defiantly picked the right dish, ravioli with game and a cream sauce. The flavor rose from the plate and filled the air with a glorious scent of herbs and spices, a hint of cinnamon and tarragon just teasing your taste buds. This was truly turning into and afternoon to remember.

Service throughout our long lunch was flawless. Attentive, personable, warm and kind, our server's service made our experience all the better. I wish I had gotten her name, she deserves credit for our wonderful experience at Horta.

Reservations are highly recommended. I saw numerous people turned away so do not get disappointed and book ahead.
