Restaurant Kardinaalshof - Bruges, Belgium: If you want a great dining experience in Bruges, make reservations at Restaurant Kardinaalshof and be prepared for a perfect evening.

After a fabulous dinner at Kardinaalshof, which is decked out in orange and taupe upholstered chairs, yellow horizontally striped curtains and the customary white linen tablecloths, its safe to assume their expertise is in the kitchen, not in decorating.

This small restaurant offers both a four and six course gastronomic menu as well as a la carte dining. We opted for the a la carte menu and started with the Oysters Three-Ways; Bloody Mary on ice, garlic butter and a spicy pepper rounded out the trio. The Bloody Mary was definitely unlike any oysters I have ever had. They were easily my favorite.

The main courses range from two different fish entrees to veal and lamb. I opted for the lamb, my dining partner the whitefish. Both entrees were as good as you would have at any five-star, French bistro and left little room for sweets.

The wine list at Restaurant Kardinaalshof is extensive, the service is supreme and the atmosphere, aside from the boring décor, is perfect for a special dinner out with friends or for a romantic dinner with your loved one.

Because this is a small restaurant, I highly recommend reservations. If you want privacy or romance, ask for either the two-top table between the front door and the bar, or the table closest to the front window.
