Hyatt Regency Resort - Sharm El Sheik, Egypt: Situated in midst of gorgeous land and seascapes, the Hyatt Sharm El Sheik encompasses a sprawling 86-acres in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. This five-star resort is one of the more popular destinations for watersports in Sharm El Sheik and features 432 rooms and suites.

Located just 10-minutes away from the Sharm El Sheik Airport, the resort is an oasis that is easily accessible.

During our stay in Sharm El Sheik, we stayed at two hotels – the Four Seasons (click here to see our luxury resort review) and the Hyatt Regency – with the intention of comparing and contrasting the two.

As expected, the Four Seasons was more expensive, though the Hyatt provided more space in the room for a lower cost.

Our first impression when we arrived at the Hyatt Sharm El Sheik was that we were taking a huge step down from the Four Seasons. I was pleased to be proven wrong.

First Impression/Lobby: We arrived at the Hyatt Regency by car from the Four Seasons. Upon check-in at the Hyatt, we were immediately greeted at the car and escorted to the desk where we were quickly checked-in to our room.

Though the lobby did not have the grandeur and pomp of the Four Seasons, it was still beautiful and had a great view of the Red Sea.

Reception: The check-in process was quick and we actually felt the staff was happy we were there, quite a different feel from when we checked in at the Four Seasons where the staff was cold and uncaring.

The Suite: We booked for a Regency King Suite. The suite had a large living room with a small dining table and a nice sized bedroom. However, the room didn’t have the most spectacular view and had a bit of a musty smell. The suite had a traditional hotel feel to it, with drab furnishings and a standard hotel room layout that looked stuck in the 80’s.

Though the décor was rather boring, and the room not the most fabulous, we were here for the views, the sea, the pool and the outside.

Room Service: Room service had a good selection of international and Middle Eastern fare and the ordering of food was fairly simple. Orders were delivered on-time and the presentation was decent – though I would not say it was the best presentation I’ve seen at a luxury hotel before.

Housekeeping: Housekeeping was way better than in the Four Seasons. The hotel staff did a good job of maintaining the room, doing daily service and evening turndowns. They folded the clothes as needed and tidied our shoes. In all, housekeeping really kept the room quite spotless.

Restaurants: Sala, the Hyatt’s Thai Restaurant, was excellent. The food was excellent and the service pretty good. In fact, it’s a place I would go out of my way to dine at again.

In addition to Sala, there were a myriad of other dining options. From buffet breakfast and lunch to steak, seafood, Asian and everything in-between it seemed. We were never at a loss for a place to dine!

Pool/Spa/Activities: Watersports and activities are what the Hyatt Sharm El Sheik is all about, and you can have your fair share of aqua fun with their pools and water center.

The Hyatt Sharm El Sheikh’s water sports center features a ton of water activities like diving, moon diving, diamond diving, snorkeling, and glide, slide and ride. The three-pool complex however, is the centerpiece of the resort with three cascading pools, a lazy river pool, an 80-meter corkscrew water slide, a winding 50-meter lazy river, waterfalls, grottos, whirlpools, two outdoor Jacuzzis, freshwater showers and pool chairs and loungers.

Service at the pool and beach was average at best. For a luxury resort, this is one area that definitely needed some improvement.

For something a little different, we rented a boat, the Almbrouka, with a crew of three to take us out for a day on the Red Sea. Swimming, sunning, snorkeling, fishing, dining and drinking – it was a Fantastic Bombastic day at the sea!

Check-Out: As is the case with many five-star resorts, the checkout process was long and laborious. It always amazes me how after a couple of days of almost flawless service, come checkout time, everything grinds to a halt. A process that should take a few mere minutes turned into a 15+ minute ordeal.

Overall Impression: Overall, while the Hyatt Regency isn’t quite as beautiful as the Four Season, for the cost of what you pay, you get more for your money at the Hyatt.

Service was just as good, and in many cases much better than the Four Seasons. Also, the staff had a better attitude and seemed more engaged in their jobs and to their guests.

Our rating for the Hyatt Regency is a solid Bombastic. While the rooms lacked a little punch, the service was consistently good. The beach and the pool were wonderful, and the restaurants were spot-on for what we paid. We really couldn’t ask for anything more. Bombastic!
