Just not up to Ritz-Carlton standards.

The Ritz-Carlton Seoul is located in Gangnam, a thriving commercial and residential district in Seoul. This five star luxury hotel’s prominent location offers guests a convenient access to the city’s main shopping and business centers.

The 18-story Ritz-Carlton Seoul offers 375 guest rooms and 47 guest suites. This business friendly hotel also offers a technology helpdesk, seven meeting rooms and a round the clock business center with high speed internet access. The hotel’s huge 6-story atrium lobby is quite impressive and features an illuminated waterfall. An international art collection showcased throughout this hotel adds to the hotel’s elegance.

Our check-in did not take much time and after a couple of minutes we were shown to our Executive suite. The suite was spacious and was done up in traditional-style furnishings. A fully stocked refreshment cabinet, in-room safe, a flat screen LCD TV and a well-lit work desk were the highlights of the suite. The work desk was equipped with high-speed internet access, computer and fax data ports and multi-line telephones. The bed was comfortable and done up in Frette cotton linens from Italy. The marble bathroom featured a vanity area, deep soaking tub and European bath essentials. A bath butler and a complimentary overnight shoeshine service were also on offer.

Though our Executive Suite was huge and offered commanding views of the city, it lacked the style that would have made if feel really upscale or luxurious. Also, a lack of adequate furniture in the huge balcony made it look as if lots of space had been wasted.

The 24-hour room service menu offered a variety of options to choose from. However, we did not get a chance to review the same during our stay. The twice-daily housekeeping service was great as our suite was well maintained at all times. A nightly evening turn down service was also available.

The Ritz-Carlton Seoul offers six dining options. The Ritz Deli is located on the first floor and offers pastries, cakes, cookies, handmade chocolates, imported confectionaries and wines. A variety of salads and sandwiches are also available here. The Garden Restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating options. As the name suggests, the outdoor dining space is set in a beautiful garden. This restaurant offers continental cuisine and an international selection of wines. The elegant Ritz bar located on the second floor of the atrium offers live performances. The Chee Hong and Hanazono restaurants offer Chinese and Japanese cuisines respectively. Last but not the least is the Oksan Buffet located on the third floor. This buffet offers more than 140 selections from cuisines around the world.

The fitness center at the Ritz-Carlton Seoul features state-of-the-art fitness equipment and personal training services. The indoor pool features a sundeck and cabanas. The highlight of the hotel spa is a Japanese soaking tub. A dry sauna, steam room, yoga classes and an outdoor golf driving range are the other activities offered by this hotel.

Concierge services were available at the Ritz-Carlton Seoul. Our check out process was efficiently handled.

Overall, the Ritz-Carlton Seoul is a nice and elegant hotel. However, our suite in the hotel lacked that feeling of luxury that makes a five-star hotel truly Bombastic. Our rating for the Ritz-Carlton Seoul is Between Bombastic and Not.
