A pretty property, The Shilla was packed with kids. In fact, I had never seen so many children at a resort in my life. Our Parlor Corner Suite consisted of a spacious bedroom, living room, bathroom and a balcony done up in shades of white, jade green and blue. The balcony offered a gorgeous view of the garden and the ocean. Alas, the positives ended right there. The air conditioner in our room was stuck at 24C (75F). After our fifth call regarding the same, the staff came and tried to fix it. But they had to eventually bring in a portable air conditioner which could barely cool one of the two rooms of our suite.

We had booked this hotel for three nights but we couldn’t handle the screaming kids, crowded pools, lack of air conditioning and lack of Western dining options after spending just one day and one night. Even the concierge at The Shilla was not helpful in finding us a good place to eat. Hence we had to try and find some decent food at one of their restaurants which was almost next to impossible.

Overall, The Shilla is a gorgeous property with charming little walking trails and an amazing view of the ocean. But it is very poorly run. The staff was slow to respond and when we contacted a manager he didn’t seem to care much either. Would we recommend this property for those looking for a relaxing holiday? Probably not! Our rating for The Shilla is Almost Not Bombastic.
