Update summer 2011. Italio's Cafe has closed. In it's place is a Lebanese coffee shop owned by the same company. We were told that they will be opening in a new location in The Avenues, but were unable to tells us where or when. So for now, one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Kuwait is gone!

Italo’s Café - Kuwait: Located on the second floor of Avenues Mall in Kuwait is Italo’s Café, one of the best Italian restaurants Kuwait has to offer.

I have been to Italo’s Café a number of times and regardless of whether I had their pasta or their pizza, I have never walked away unsatisfied.

The first time I went to Italo’s, I was a bit leery of what a restaurant that was set out in the open (between the walkways on either side) of the mall could really serve up. The décor was comfortable and akin to what I’ve seen in Italian trattorias in Italy, but still, here in Kuwait, in the middle of a mall, how good could their Italian food be?

I perused their large menu, only to find it a tad overwhelming, everything just sounded so good. A huge selection of pastas and almost as many pizzas made it difficult to choose. I was with a friend so he ordered the Arbiata Pasta, I had the Margherita Pizza.

While we waited for our food, the attentive waiter brought us fresh (very fresh) bread and dipping sauces and we took in the view. Located as it was, the restaurant is perfect for people watching.

Lunch took about 15 minutes to be prepared and before we knew it, I was presented with a large, thin crusted pizza and my friend a nice-sized bowl of pasta; both of which looked appetizing and smelled beautiful.

After just a bite, we were both pleasantly surprised to find out that Italo’s Café in Kuwait actually served up sumptuous, authentic Italian food. It was better than some Italian food I’ve tasted back home and even better than some that I’ve tried in Italy.

For a casual, Italian restaurant in Kuwait I highly recommend Italo’s Café at Avenues Mall; it is bombastic!
