The décor of this Indian restaurant in Kuwait was neat and very upbeat. Comfortable seating was available both indoors and outdoors. The design of the restaurant made me feel as if I was in a progressive and modern Indian restaurant in Kuwait.

We were at Nirvana on a week day afternoon and we found it to be pretty much empty. In fact, we were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived. We were told to sit on the main level as the upstairs section was reserved for “families”, that’s another way of saying “no single men”. For a minute I thought I had driven too far down Highway 30 and somehow slipped into Saudi Arabia or that I had missed the memo that said Kuwait now had segregated seating. We took a seat in the small dining room on the main level and prepared ourselves for what we hoped was going to be some mind blowing Indian food.

As we were going through the menu about three groups of women (all covered) came in and headed up to the “family” dining room. The menu had a standard Indian design and consisted of regular Indian fare.

We started off with a vegetarian appetizer of Punjabi Samosa (stuffed with potato and cottage cheese). They were extremely dry, dull and had zero taste. Not a good start at all. Next up was my favorite Indian dish, the Murgh Makhani (butter chicken or chicken tikka in tomato and creamy gravy). However, the version served here was far too bland and flavourless. What a huge disappointment.

My friend had the Chicken Tikka Masala or chicken tikka cooked with chopped masala and tomato gravy. Though this had more flavor in the form of chilli peppers, my friends was of the opinion that this was close to the worst Chicken Tikka Masala dish that he’s had at any Indian Restaurant in Kuwait. Both our dishes were hugely disappointing! On top of that, our Nan (Indian bread) was just as poorly done as the main dishes.

Service was decent, but since we were the only diners in the main restaurant it would have been very difficult to screw it up. Though we were offered dessert, both of us quickly refused considering our experience so far. Needless, to say, we promptly paid the bill and headed for the door.

Overall, Nirvana Indian restaurant serves below par Indian fare in The Village Kuwait. Would we visit this restaurant again if we were in the neighborhood? Absolutely not! Our rating for this restaurant is Not Bombastic.
