Our least favorite of the four bungalows.

Norwood Bungalow in central Sri Lanka is part of Ceylon Tea Trails, a collection of four planter’s bungalows that have been carefully restored. These colonial planter’s bungalows were originally built for British tea estate managers between 1890 and 1939.

Located in the Bogawantalawa Valley, Norwood Bungalow lies at an altitude of more than 4,000 feet above sea level. This bungalow offers two luxury rooms with garden views, two garden suites with private gardens and a master suite.

Resting in the shelter of fine bamboo stands, the Norwood Bungalow was a treat to behold. Timbered ceilings and imposing colonial style furniture added to this bungalows charm. We were shown to our Master Suite soon after arrival.

Our Master Suite had a living room, bedroom and a bathroom. The whole suite was appointed with period furnishings. The bedroom featured a four poster bed while the bathroom had a rain shower. The private garden of the suite turned out to be nothing more than a grassy area in front of the suite with just a couple of lounge chairs and a bench and table. Another major negative was that the suite did not have a fireplace. Also, the suite did not offer much in terms of privacy.

Other than the formal dining room, garden dining was also available. Both Western fare and traditional Sri Lankan dishes were available. However, the food and service at this bungalow was way below average.

The Norwood Bungalow had a large swimming pool with a sun deck. A summer house, a croquet lawn, a lounge and a library were the other main amenities. In room Spa treatments were also available.

Overall, service and food were a big let down at Norwood Bungalow. Also, the grounds and views weren’t that magnificent. To be honest, we were not that impressed with this bungalow and rate it Between Bombastic and Not.
