Summerville bungalow in central Sri Lanka is part of Ceylon Tea Trails, a collection of restored planter’s bungalows originally built for British tea estate managers. This pretty bungalow has the air of a country cottage and offers magnificent views of the lake and beyond.

Built in 1923, Summerville is situated high above Castlereagh Lake at an altitude of 4000 feet. This bungalow offers a luxury room, two garden suites and one master suite.

Our check-in was effortless and we were shown to our master suite without any delay. The master suite had a separate living room with a fireplace. The suite was furnished with both classical and contemporary furnishings. Among all the Ceylon Tea Trails properties that we had stayed in, this suite was the most private of all.

The food here was probably the best among all the four bungalows. The traditional English cream tea served on the lawns was executed perfectly. Also, service was top notch. Summerville also offers a cosy lounge, summer house, sunbathing deck and in room Spa treatments. The only thing missing at this bungalow was a swimming pool.

Overall, Summerville is a charming country cottage that offers stunning views of the nearby lake and hills. The food and the service here was simply great. This bungalow easily gets a rating of Bombastic from us.
