Ngorongoro Crater Lodge - Ngorongoro Tree Camp, Tanzania | Hotel Review

Ngorongoro Tree Camp, Tanzania

The rooms are nestled in amongst the trees that provides for the utmost privacy. Yet, from you front porch you have great views of the Crater below.

Walking into the room will astound you. A huge bed looking out over the deck and to the Ngorongoro Crater below. A beautiful fireplace used not just for looks but also to heat the room. Yes, it does get chilly up there. Each room has its own butler who gets the fire going, runs your bath, brings you morning coffee and serves you dinner when you have it in your room. Play some nice background music on your iPOD, light some candles and slip into the tub, BOMBASTIC. Life does not get any better than that.

The game drives in the Crater were wonderful. The ride down in the morning was a bit chilly and uneventful but once you are down, get your camera ready; the number of animals is unreal. This is not a private game reserve so there tends to be many, many more jeeps especially when there is something good to see (Rhino or lions and their morning kill). The jeeps are enclosed and you need to stay on the road, things you just take for granted at the private reserves. Still, the game drives are top notch.

The food at the lodge was good, but I would not say bombastic. Wonderful soups everyday but the dinners themselves I found a bit lacking.

Our only complaint about Tree Lodge was the day we arranged for a private game drive and lunch in the Crater to celebrate our anniversary. We said we wanted something, private, very special, something memorable. What we got was memorable, but for the wrong reason; a few tuna salad sandwiches, some pasta salad, a little fruit and a cheap bottle of wine and the ranger joined us for the whole lunch. Not very private and not very special. We did contact ccafrica and they are making it up to us, but still it was a disappointment.
