The Zuma Restaurant is a chain of restaurants found across different cities in the world. Zuma in Dubai is one of them and a great place to visit for good sushi in Dubai. Zuma in Dubai is located in the International Finance Center, right at the heart of the city and flanked by the Emirates Towers and the world’s tallest building, the Burj Dubai. Having gathered rave reviews about its visual design and great food, we decided to drop in and figure out the restaurant for ourselves.

The First Impression: We arrived at Zuma in Dubai on a Thursday night and found the place packed to the brim. After a 30 minutes wait, which gave us enough time to take in the trendy bar with its great music and young crowd, we were shown to our seats.

Décor and Ambience: Zuma in Dubai was completely chic and very cool. The visual design created by Noriyoshi Muramatsu who belonged to the renowned design studio in Tokyo, Super Potato, balances the six elements; wood, fire, water, earth, air and iron. The granite counters, the rustic steel walls, the breathtaking bamboo sculpture made with 350 bamboos and 450 wires all added to the modish look fused with elements of tradition. The restaurant is designed to fit two floors connected by a stairways and an elevator. The main dining level is on the lower level and divided into sections.

One part of the Zuma in Dubai has different seating options, the central part has a raised sushi level and a different area for the Robata grill invites those looking for an intimate dining experience warmly. The ambience was completely great, very up-beat and young; this was a place to have a good time in while eating great food and sipping on cool drinks.

The Food: Zuma in Dubai followed the Japanese izakaya style of dining which is all about an friendly informal dining where food is brought in steadily and all the dishes are shared amongst the diners. The sushi counter is very interactive and quite an experience to take in. Zuma in Dubai offered a great selection of hot and cold sake, wines and Champagne. The menu comprised of small eats, robata, sushi and sashimi, zuma dishes and desserts. The small eats had some delicious choices like the crispy fried squid with green chili and lime, salmon and tuna tartare with sevruga caviar.

The sushi and sashimi were really mouth-watering and presented beautifully. Choices included mackerel and cucumber roll with ginger and homemade vinegar, soft-shell crab, chili mayonnaise, cucumber and wasabi tobiko sauce and much, much more. The variety of sashimi and rolls was extensive.

From the Robata grill at Zuma in Dubai, you could choose from jumbo tiger prawns with yuzu pepper, asparagus with wafu sauce and sesame, chili miso marinated lamb chops, friend eggplants and ume boshi plum plus many other selections.

Desserts were traditional Japanese ones with a modern twist; green tea and banana cake with coconut ice cream and toffee sauce, green chili marinated pineapple with coconut cream. The dishes showed influence of the local flavors too and the blend was surprisingly delicious.

The Calculated Impression: Our visit to the Zuma in Dubai was really great. We enjoyed the amazing food and sake, the great service and the hip and trendy ambience. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but the great food and drinks did it complete justice. Zuma in Dubai gets a our rating of Bombastic!

What I liked: The amazing food and drinks and the trendy chic ambience at the Zuma in Dubai.

What I didn’t like: The steep prices for the food and drinks at the Zuma in Dubai.

Rating: Bombastic.
