Great Burgers in London!

Automat American Brasserie - London, England: Automat American Brasserie in Dover Street serves American comfort food in a lively and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant incorporates a classic diner theme in its interiors-comfy leather padded booths, small tables, curved wooden ceiling, black-and-white-tiled walls, venetianed windows, electric lamps, and a minimalist long bar. The main dining area is located at the rear and is reserved for guests who book a table in advance. The big open kitchen is also located at the back part together with a split-level cafeteria space. In the front part are small tables allotted for walk-ins. Big picture windows allow the light from outside to stream in giving the place a bright and sunny feeling.

We had not booked a reservation in advance so we had to wait 30 minutes to get seated. Automat’s menu was extensive and had every American dish worth craving for-hearty burgers, salads, pastas, steaks, macaroni and cheese, clam chowder, creamy shakes, smoothies, and buttermilk pancakes. They also served an eclectic wine selection, including a Merlot with Marilyn Monroe labels. Strangely, they didn’t serve American beers.

Automat is known for their Automat burger, and it was exactly what we were there for. When the dish was served in our table, we were immediately impressed by the size alone. Talk about American size, it was huge! And the taste was equally satisfying. The bun was crisp, the meat tender and juicy, and the gherkins were melt-in-your-mouth good. As for the side dish, the coleslaw was a little bland and the fries a bit salty but the delicious burger more than made up for this.

The service was attentive but not overbearing. Overall, Automat American Brasserie is a fun casual diner that serves satisfying American burgers that can be a nice treat when in London. I give Automat a rating of Bombastic; they have some of the best burgers in London.

What I liked: Burgers

What I didn’t like: Bland coleslaw and salty fries

Rating: Bombastic
