1918 Bistro & Grill - Barossa Valley, Australia: Located 70 km from Adelaide, the Barossa Valley in Australia is the most famous wine tasting region in the country. After spending the morning visiting the local wineries we made our way to one of the finest restaurants in the region - 1918 Bistro and Grill. The restaurant gets its name from the year the building was erected.

It was a beautiful, sunny day so we decided to sit on the jasmine-scented veranda under huge canvas umbrellas, in a gorgeous garden setting. The restaurant serves a modern Australian cuisine with a hint of Asian and Middle Eastern flavors. The wine list is extensive with several wines from the Barossa region. The menu changes depending on the season and the restaurant is also available for private parties.

To start, I had an Australian specialty, Morton Bay Bug Tails. This was served with crushed kipfler potatoes, asparagus, micro herb salad and sauce vierge. Not surprisingly, I was a bit leery about eating Morton Bay Bugs, but the dish was delicious!

Next, we had grilled Kangaroo fillet with baked quince, Schulz's bacon, tomato jam and roasted chestnut dressing. On the side we ordered steamed greens with herb mustard butter, the side dishes being large enough for two people. A beautiful white wine from the local Barossa Valley accompanied our lunch. The kangaroo reminded me of venison but had a sweeter taste. The meat itself was slightly tougher than I expected but better tasting.

The food is artistically presented, service warm, friendly and efficient and location beautiful. All in all I rate our experience Bombastic!
