This was our second trip to 1800 Degrees and we went to the restaurant on a Friday night, prepared for a busy crowd. The place wasn’t as jam-packed as we expected and we were soon seated at a lovely table towards the back of the long and narrow restaurant.

Once we got settled in, the waiter came, delivered the menus and took our drink orders. Additionally, a small basket of super fresh bread was delivered to our table. This gave us the opportunity to peruse the menu and take in the restaurants setting.

1800 Degrees had a formal yet relaxing vibe, and lounge music played quietly in the background, perfect for quiet dinner conversations. Linen table clothes, fine china flatware, and crystal glasses set the mood for a fine dining experience.

The restaurant was lit tastefully, not too bright yet not to dark so as not to read the menu. A bar is situated near the front end, with tables set up all the way to the back. The muted colors of the décor, low lighting and narrowness of the restaurant gave it a cozy feeling.

The menu had a variety of choices. Appetizers included Caesar’s Salad and Pan Seared Sea Scallops. Dishes “from the broiler” included Paradise Farms Prime Filet Mignon, Paradise Farms New York Strip and Paradise Farms Prime Steak Frites; sides included Broiled Lobster Tail, Twice Baked Potato and Yukon Gold Fries. Some of the main dishes in the menu included Pan Seared Wild B.C. Salmon, Wild Line Caught Pacific Halibut, and 1800 Degrees Prime Burger.

The wine list was pretty extensive, affordably priced and the manager/sommelier was close at hand to help customers select the right wine.

After a short wait, our waiter (we never did get his name) came to take our orders. For our appetizers, my partner had the Soup of the Day, which was Seared Beef Barley Soup, while I had the Scallops with Pork Belly. The soup was in a big bowl, and was delicious! Filling and flavorful! As for the Scallops and Pork Belly, it was an amazing combination.

For our main courses, we both had the 6-ounce Filet Mignon, ordered medium rare (was that even possible in an 1800-degree oven?).

Our steaks were served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. As mentioned earlier, this was our second visit and the steaks were just as juicy, tender and simply melt-in-your-mouth as our first time. Perfectly prepared, they were a joy to eat.

For dessert, we had the Trio of Pies: Coconut Cream, Key Lime and Lemon Tart. The Key Lime Pie had a chocolate crust, and for us, lime and chocolate do not go well together at all.

Service throughout dinner was just not up to snuff. For example, small details like knowing the gins they carry, folding the napkin when you step away from the table or filling the wine glasses throughout dinner were simply not there. On our first visit, there were service issues as well, so it was disappointing to have them on our second time.

Overall, we give 1800 Degrees a Bombastic rating. Even with their minor service issues, the food carries them up to Bombastic level. If they were to get their service level raised, no doubt they can easily earn the rating of Fantastic Bombastic!

What I liked: The ambience, the food!

What I didn’t like: Minor service issues

Rating: Bombastic
