Drake Hotel – Toronto, ON: The Drake Hotel is located on Queen Street West in Toronto, Ontario. Home to a variety of restaurants, clubs and bars, this hotel opened in 1890 as “Small’s Hotel”. A popular destination for many, the Drake Hotel is not just a place to stay; it’s a hip and trendy place to eat as well.

The Drake Toronto houses a lounge, dining room, roof top patio called Sky Yard, corner café and a music bar called The Drake Underground. We visited this hotel on a lazy afternoon and the place was filled with an array of people ranging right from business men to hip and trendy 20 - 30 year-olds. We visited the lounge first before heading upstairs to the Sky Yard. Rotating art exhibits added a nice touch to the eclectic décor of the lounge. We had a great time here. Our next stop was the Sky Yard, a popular hot spot in Toronto. This space was smoker friendly and was equipped with a satellite cocktail bar.

When we were on our way to this hotel in Queen Street West in Toronto, we were not thinking of sushi, but after having a look at their menu, we couldn’t help ourselves and decided to give it a try. A few of the things we sampled were Tuna Sashimi, Salmon Sashimi, Coconut Shrimp Maki and Gold Rush Maki. The Coconut Shrimp Maki was made of panko shrimp and a dynamite sauce. On the other hand, the Gold Rush Maki was made of salmon, avocado and cucumber. The Salmon Pizza was as tasted as good as it looked. Bombastic! We were very impressed with their food. To be honest, it was much better than our expectations.

The atmosphere at the Drake Toronto was fun and lively. I’d love to hit this hip place on a weekend. I am sure it would have a great vibe going. Moreover, the décor was as eclectic as it was trendy. If ever there was a downfall, it would be service. It didn’t seem to me as if they were under staffed, it just seemed like they had more of an “I don’t really care” attitude. What a shame that was.

Overall the Drake Toronto is definitely a place I would visit again. Does this hotel reach the level of bombastic though? Had there been good service, it sure would have, but the lackluster approach to service makes me gives them an Almost Bombastic rating.

What I liked: The eclectic décor and lively atmosphere

What I didn’t like: The lackluster approach to service

Rating: Almost Bombastic
