Insomnia Cafe - Toronto, ON: Insomnia Cafe on Bloor Street West in Toronto is hugely popular for its traditional brunch menu. A café/restaurant during the day and a restaurant bar at night, this café serves brunch and dinner. Reservations are accepted till 10 am and after 2:30 pm. If you don’t have reservations for brunch, we recommend that you arrive at least 9:30 or 10:00, because after that the place gets jam packed! The café also allows diners to call 30 minutes before their expected arrival time and put their names on the list.

Insomnia Café has fast become one of our favorite breakfast and brunch restaurants in the whole of Toronto. The atmosphere at this café is casual yet chic. Exposed brick walls and wooden tables give a feeling of a friendly and leisurely café.

The menu offered a whole lot of French, International and Mediterranean dishes. In fact, there were so many awesome sounding stuff that we didn’t know where to start. Luckily we were there with friends and were able to sample a variety of dishes between the five of us. Smoothies, mimosas, martinis, cocktails and regular drinks like, coffee and tea were also on offer. We ordered a Berry Smoothie, Chicken Omelet, Eggs Lorraine, Heaven on Earth, the Signature Pancakes and Waffles.

First up was the Berry Smoothie. It tasted nice and was not too filling. Then came the Chicken Omelet, who knew you could have chicken for breakfast? Needless to say, this Omelet tasted very good. The Eggs Lorraine was served next and consisted of two poached eggs with house made hollandaise, peameal bacon and cheddar cheese and was served with homefries and baby greens.

The Heaven on Earth was made of wild berries, cream cheese and honey sandwiched between lightly tanned French toast, dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of pure Canadian maple syrup. Believe me; they tasted even better than they sounded. Yes, they were close to Heaven on Earth! Finally was the waffles served with a side of Canadian maple syrup and chocolate ice cream. And yes, we were not counting calories or even caring that we were having ice cream at 10 AM!

The Signature Pancakes were oven baked and took 30 minutes to make. However, there was nothing special about them and we were disappointed. When I informed the waitress about this she promptly took them off the bill. She added that something must be wrong with them because they never get any complaints. It was just plain awesome to see that they vouch for their food. And this is essentially what makes a place Bombastic!

Service at Insomnia Café was top notch, especially since we were there as a group. Often, service suffers when you are at a restaurant with a group, but not at Insomnia!

Overall, Insomoniais definitely a great spot for breakfast or brunch in Toronto. If you are visiting this cafe for breakfast or brunch, be sure to get there before 10. Otherwise, be prepared to wait! Our rating for Insomnia Café is Bombastic!
