InterContinental Hotel Town Center - Toronto: The InterContinental Hotel situated in downtown Toronto is attached to the Metro Toronto Convention Center. The prime location of this hotel ensures that all major attractions in the area are within walking distance. The live theater and the restaurants on King Street West are a short stroll away.

The InterContinental Hotel Toronto offers 586 guestrooms and suites with a modern décor. A business center, a conference room and secretarial services are also available at this 4-star, green/sustainable hotel.

First Impression/Lobby: The lobby was huge and had a modern black and white décor. The nicely polished marble floor deserves a special mention.

Reception: The first lady who assisted us was rude. There is no other way I can describe her attitude other than “rude”. We told her we needed to speak to a supervisor and the lady who came out was to our surprise, even ruder. Incredible!!! We finally got checked in and pointed into the direction of our room.

The Suite: Our Deluxe King Room was equipped with all modern amenities and was done up in neutral colors. The walls were gray, the drapes were olive green and the wall at the head of the bed was dark brown. The bathroom was equally drab. In fact, the average city and partial lake view from our room was the only saving grace.

Our room essentially followed a standard layout with a dull interior; there was nothing special about it at all.

Room Service: The room service menu was rather limited for a hotel of this caliber. They charge $3.50 for delivery PER PERSON plus 15% for service. However, our food was delivered on time, was nicely set up and was of good quality.

Housekeeping: We requested turn-down service (only done upon request) but it never happened. Our request for robes and slippers went unfulfilled as well.

Concierge: The staff at the concierge desk was totally clueless about his job. He just had no idea when we asked for recommendations for dinner and things to do the following day.

Restaurant: The Azure restaurant serves contemporary Canadian cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Azure Lounge and Bar serves fine wine and cocktail in the evening.

Pool/Spa/Activities: The Spa at InterContinental Hotel Toronto was equipped with ten treatment rooms, a Himalayan salt hot tub, steam room, saline pool and a solarium. A range of facial and body treatments were available. The 24-hour fitness center offered a range of cardio and strength training equipment and a Yoga studio.

Check-Out: Faced with so many service issues, we decided to cut our stay short. When we were checking out, the agent asked why we were leaving early and we informed her about the numerous service issues we had faced. And her response was simply “oh” and nothing more. At least a sorry would have been nice!

Overall Impression: Overall, InterContinental Hotel Toronto had very basic rooms, there was nothing wow about them. Though this is fine, there are other luxury hotels that offer more for the same price. However, the biggest issue we faced was the horrible attitudes from most of the staff, including managers. Needless to say, this is a place we will not return to. Our rating for this hotel is Almost Not Bombastic.
