Restaurant Gandhi has a classy décor and is furnished with bistro-style tables with white lines. While one dining room is painted in creamy yellow, the second one is painted in bright lavender. Soft lighting coupled with traditional Indian music in the background makes you feel as if you have been transported to the Indian subcontinent.

The menu at Restaurant Gandhi offers a variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. Popular appetizers at this Indian restaurant in Montreal are pakoras, seasoned vegetable fritters fried in Indian butter; Dal or yellow lentil soup and vegetable or meat samosas, crispy pastries stuffed with fresh mixed vegetables or seasoned ground meat and served on a bed of salad. Tandoori dishes cooked in a traditional wood burning oven, a variety of curries with a choice of chicken, beef, lamb, shrimp or lobster and a number of Indian flat bread are the options available for main course. Set menus are also available for lunch and dinner. The Gandhi platter, a signature dish, is made up of Tandoori chicken, lamb Tikka, shrimps Tikka and Sheekh kabab. Chicken Tikka, Tandoori duck and lamb are the other popular items at this restaurant.

We started out with meat samosas and the Gandhi platter and then went on to order Tandoori Naans, a traditional Indian white bread baked in the clay oven and Chicken Tikka masala. The Chicken Tikka masala consisted of marinated and roasted chicken pieces mixed with masala sauce. All the dishes were fresh. However, the food was average tasting at best. Moreover, the portions were small compared to the price that averaged between $17 and $20 per dish.

Restaurant Gandhi also offers a wine and beer menu to match the flavor’s in each Indian dish. The service is friendly, decent and brisk. Overall, this Indian restaurant in Montreal offers Indian cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere with decent service. Our rating for Restaurant Gandhi is Between Bombastic and Not.
