Key Words –

Sunset Grill – Toronto, ON Situated on Queen Street in the Beaches area of Toronto, Sunset Grill has built a name for itself as a breakfast diner with a massive following. Seeing as we were looking for the best breakfast in Toronto, naturally we headed on over to see if the hype was real.

The Sunset Grill had a very casual vibe, with a layout very much reminiscent of old-time diners from the 50’s. Though the tables and chairs were unremarkable, with Tiffany lamps overhead and frame-less mirrors on the wall, the décor surprisingly worked well with the overall ambience of the place. It looked like a nice place for breakfast, or maybe the occasional lunch or dinner if the craving for pancakes becomes too unbearable.

The service was generally good and I was pleased by the warm reception we got.

The menu choices was your typical North American breakfast fare, with bacon & eggs, French toast, Belgian waffles, omelets, plus various salads and sandwiches as well. I had the blueberry pancakes while my partner had the frittatas. Neither dished overly impressed, though the pancakes had real blueberries, it was rather dry. However, servings for all dishes were hefty and quite filling.

Overall, we rate the Sunset Grill Almost Bombastic with its casual atmosphere with good, though not great, food and decent service all around. However, would I ever go back? That’s a tough one. Let me put it this way, if I ever happened to be in the area with a hankering for all-day breakfast, I might go back. But would I take time to drive across town just for it? I think not.

What I liked: Casual atmosphere, good service, hefty servings

What I didn’t like: My dry pancakes

Rating: Almost Bombastic
