Din Tai Fung - Shanghai, China - A place where “creating steamed Chinese dumplings is not just a technique, but an art”, Din Tai Fung at Xin Tian Di serves the best dumplings in Shanghai and is definitely the answer to where to eat in Shanghai. The restaurant founded by Bingyi Yang was listed as the ‘top ten restaurants in the world’ by The New York Times and has gained many such recognitions through the years. We couldn’t wait to get out teeth sinking into these famed Chinese dumplings.

The First Impression: Situated inside Xin Tian Di, Din Tai Fung had a very casual setting. The place is always crowded as it is considered as the best place for Chinese dumplings in Shanghai. With rave reviews of the amazing food offered here, be sure to reserve a place before hand or you are in for a long wait.

Ambience and Décor: The ambience and décor at Din Tai Fung spoke of a casual dining place. With tables in black finish fitted with comfortable chairs, the décor didn’t exude any fantastic style or chic value. It was neat, systematic with nice overhead lamps lighting up the place. Crowded with people anxious to grab at the food, Din Tai Fung was all about the cuisine it offered.

The Food: The steamed Chinese dumplings were out of the world. The menu offered dumplings, noodles, rice and other appetizers. Reasonable priced, it gave people a chance to try a variety of different dishes and each better than the last. We had the steamed mini pork dumplings with soup where we got 10 pieces for 39 Yuan (approximately $6) and it was absolutely bombastic. Delicate and perfectly cooked, the flavors were blended so well and had our taste-buds screaming for more. We then had the braised beef soup with noodles for 38 Yuan. The soup was filling and rich in texture and taste. We then ordered the noodles with minced pork and bean sauce for 35 Yuan and the shrimp and pork wonton with spicy sauce for 42 Yuan. Each of the dishes offered was distinct in taste and satisfied us with its rich aroma, quantity and amazing quality of preparation.

The Service The service at Din Tai Fung was very good considering how crowded it was. With the staff all fitted with wireless microphones, efficiency apparently ranked quite high in their motto.

The Calculated Impression: Din Tai Fung at Xin Tian Di was definitely the place to go for the best steamed Chinese dumplings in Shanghai. Out of all the restaurants in Shanghai this served the best food and had great value for money.

What I liked: The amazing food , service and value for money.

What I didn’t like: The wait for a table owing it to being so popular and full all the time.

Rating: Bombastic
