O Barqueiro Marisqueira – Madeira, Portugal: There is an overflowing wealth of restaurants in the island of Madeira and an abundance of seafood restaurants in Funchal that the only problem is choosing where to eat. While there are a lot of highly recommended restaurants in the area, O Barqueiro Marisqueira stands out as a superb fish restaurant overlooking the water at the western end of the promenade at Centromar in Lido.

We went to O Barqueiro for a late lunch and had the restaurant pretty much to ourselves. As we walked inside, we were greeted by a huge fish tank filled with every kind of fresh fish imaginable. The bright décor and wide open space made eating all the more enticing and prepared our senses for the feast to come. The staff accommodated us warmly and gave us a good table by the terrace where the view of the sea was magnificent.

Their seafood menu was pretty extensive plus they had a few meat dishes as well. For starters we had Fresh Oysters, Seafood Soup, and Garlic Bread, and for our main dish, Baked Turbot and Madeira Style Rice. All I can say is that the food was absolutely delicious! I don’t think seafood could get any fresher than this. Service was excellent all throughout. Our lunch and overall experience at the O Barqueiro Marisqueira was simply perfect. Nothing less than Bombastic!
