Stanley Restaurant - New Orleans, LA: Stanley Restaurant, conveniently located at 547 Saint Ann St. at Chartres St. down in historic Jackson Square, is one of the few places for breakfast in New Orleans. The casual equivalent of Chef Scott Boswell’s fine dining restaurant, Stella, the food here can be described as traditional American food with a twist.

Our hotel recommended Stanley Restaurant to us when we asked for a good place for breakfast in New Orleans. The place itself had a casual vibe, but don’t expect to have casual average food here. We arrived for brunch and were greeted by a throng of tourists. We had to wait for half an hour at least to get seated. Once seated, service was just fair. I guess that’s to be expected given the crowd the servers had to wait on. It was a crazy scene, and if this was how it is everyday, then don’t expect to have a leisurely breakfast or brunch here, especially being one of the few places for breakfast in New Orleans.

The food was typical American fare with a twist with dishes such as:
Eggs Stanley - Cornmeal-Crusted Oysters, Poached Eggs, Canadian Bacon and Creole Hollandaise on a Toasted English Muffin
Corned Beef Hash - Boar’s Head Brand Pastrami and Corned Beef Hash with Poached Eggs, Slices of Toasted French Bread and Creole Hollandaise
Eggs Benedict Poor Boy - Poached Eggs, Smoked Canadian Bacon and Creole Hollandaise on Toasted French Bread
Eggs Stella - Cornmeal-Crusted Soft-Shell Crab, Poached Eggs, Canadian Bacon and Creole Hollandaise on Toasted English

They also serve sandwiches and salads, as well as Italian soda and the all-American milk shake.

The food was creative, but a tad commercial for me, especially taking into consideration the above average prices ($10.00 – 15.00+) for breakfast dishes and sandwiches. Based on this, plus the meager service, we rate Stanley Restaurant Somewhere Between Bombastic and Not.

What I liked: Casual ambience, interesting menu
