Sommerset Inn with its 250 boutique styled rooms and suites is located near the Sommerset Collection featuring Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Tiffany etc off I-75 on Big Beaver Road in the business center of Troy. The hotel is surrounded by a lot of Fortune 500 companies and is an ideal stop-over for those who have meetings and business conferences in this area. Sommerset Inn is within easy reach of great shopping, dining options and more. We were here to check out the rest of the facilities offered in this hotel and see how it fared.

First Impression/Lobby: The Sommerset Inn was very basic in décor and atmosphere. Located quite centrally, it offers convenience in terms of commute and reach. The lobby is pleasantly done in warm hues with a few floral arrangements displayed around the room.

Reception: We were welcomed into the Sommerset Inn quite warmly. The hotel was not a five-star one and the services offered were just on par with that. There is no bellman or doorman so getting your luggage from your car to your room and parking is all left up to you.

The Suite: We had booked the Luxury Suite for ourselves at the Sommerset Inn. The rooms were plain and average in appearance but spacious and very clean. The suite was done up in muted tones of gray, white and cream. There were a few framed prints to deck the walls and a few stand-lamps to throw light around the room. The drapes and the duvet were in the same shades to match the room. The bedroom had a writing desk, a comfortable king’s bed and a closet for your clothes and luggage with extra space. The living room was separate and is fitted with a wet bar. There was also a bathroom with a soaking tub and a separate shower stand.

Room Service: The room service at Sommerset Inn was quite good though not anything I would go out of my way for. Portion sizes were ample enough and the club sandwich and burger that we ordered was delivered on time and was quite well prepared.

Housekeeping: The housekeeping at Sommerset Inn was satisfactory and they kept the suite spruced and well maintained. All our requests were dealt with efficiently and quickly.

Concierge: The concierge service was handled by the front desk and they knew their job well and carried it our professionally.

Restaurant: The Crumpet Restaurant at Sommerset Inn serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. One could also enjoy a cocktail or an appetizer at the hotel’s Bar and Grille.

Check-Out: The check-out was quick and efficient without any delays and errors.

Overall Impression: Though our stay at Sommerset Inn was comfortable and pleasant, the hotel isn’t one fitted with aspects of luxury and impeccable service. The location was a major bonus point in favor of Sommerset Inn. If you were looking for a place that isn’t a five-star hotel, but a decent place to stay, Sommerset Inn is an ideal choice. We rate it Between Bombastic and Not.
