SushiSamba at The Palazzo - Las Vegas, Nevada: So many chic and trendy Japanese restaurants focus on the decor they lose site of the most important thing-great sushi. SushiSamba at The Palazzo in Las Vegas is one of the few sushi restaurants I have been to that is both fashionably chic and serves great food too.

Dining at the SushiSamba is an adventure in itself because of the vibrant and lively interiors-there is always something interesting to look at. Colorful ceilings, graffiti on the walls, and energetic music will bombard your senses. The restaurant is faithful to true Las Vegas’ flamboyance with its Peruvian, Brazilian and Japanese inspired dishes and décor. Now how’s that for over-the-top? But SushiSamba gets away with this opulence. To clarify, SushiSamba serves Japanese cuisine using Peruvian techniques added with a Brazilian flare-an exciting and truly unusual fusion that you have to try out for yourself.

We went sushi (and sashimi) all-the-way and ordered the Samba Sashimi Chef’s Inspiration, an assortment of sashimi with a steep price of $33.00, but the quality and variety and the exquisite presentation helped to overlook the high price. A couple of my favorites include the Samba Roll, a delectable roll of Green Envy tuna, salmon, asparagus, wasabi pea crust, with aji amarillo-key lime mayo, and the Neo Tokyo yellowfin tuna with tempura flakes and aji panca.

While the portions were on the smaller side, the taste, the freshness and the quality were over-the-top good! Service was excellent even though we came during a shift change; halfway through the meal, our first server was replaced by another one, but both gave above average service.

Their wine selection was not extensive but large enough to offer a fine selection. I ordered one of my favorite standbys—a Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2006 from New Zealand—went well with the sushi. Great food, great vibe, and good service, I rate the SushiSamba Bombastic!
