The perfect location of the crescent-shaped Vdara on the Las Vegas Strip means that the hotel is close to all the gaming, dining, shopping and nightlife that City Center has to offer. The 57 storied Vdara offers 1 495 guestrooms. All guestrooms follow a contemporary theme and are comfortably equipped.

First Impression/Lobby: The lobby at the Vdara hotel follows a black and white theme and is tastefully decorated with plush furnishings. Though the lobby was not very large, it was fresh, trendy and bright and had a nice vibe to it.

Reception: After a long wait, it was finally my turn to check in. The young man behind the desk was friendly and welcoming – I sure didn’t feel like I was in a typical Las Vegas hotel where the welcome is far from warm and is more forced. This guy was actually enjoying his job and did a great job of welcoming us to Vdara.

The Suite: Our one bedroom penthouse was accessible through a private key elevator. The penthouse was done up in muted colors, giving it a true trendy feel. The living room was appointed with a lot of stuff- a small kitchenette, a wood and glass dining table for four, a 42-inch LCD flat-screen television and a queen size pull-out sofa. The work desk was equipped with complimentary wireless Internet access, high-speed (wired) Internet access and a telephone with voicemail. A washer and dryer were conveniently tucked away near the front door. Another nice feature was a half bath located off the living room for guests.

The bedroom was furnished with a king bed with a custom designed pillow-top mattress, two night stands, a wall mounted 42-inch LCD flat-screen television and a decent sized closet. In short, every inch of this room had been optimally utilized. The bathroom was also packed with a single trendy sink, deep soaking tub, large shower stall and a private toilet nook. A small TV was mounted on the wall of the bathroom. Moreover, the bathroom was well stocked with hair and body care amenities from Aveda.

The only negative aspect was the view as our penthouse overlooked the back part of the strip and the highway. It was actually a decent view at night. But for the best view, be sure to book a room that looks at the Strip and the Bellagio fountains.

Room Service: Room service was very slow. Even though they had a good selection of options for In-Suite Dining, getting the food delivered to the room was something that required a lot of waiting and patience from us.

Housekeeping: The housekeeping staff did a good job and we were left with no complaints. A nightly turndown service was available on request.

Concierge: Trying to get hold of the concierge staff proved to be a Herculean task. After numerous attempts to reach the concierge on the telephone we resorted to going to see them in person. Once there we had to literally wait in line for over 20 minutes; quite a different experience all together. However, once we got up there, they were quick to make recommendations and reservations for lunch and dinner. However, a special request for tickets to a show went undone; I think this had more to do with understaffing than inexperience or being unskilled.

Restaurant: The Market Café Vdara is a grab and go outlet that offers pastries, cookies, mini-cheesecakes, paninis as well as breakfast and lunch items. The menu focuses on fresh, seasonal and organic ingredients. The Market Café Vdara also features a gourmet coffee bar.

The Bar Vdara, an eclectic lobby lounge, offers light fare and cocktails. This cosy bar is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Outdoor swings, sculptural screens and a curved reflecting pool lend this beautiful bar a magical touch.

Pool/Spa/Activities: The Vdara Spa & Salon offers a collection of massages, body treatments and skincare services. The Smoothie Bar at the Spa & Salon offers smoothies, healthy snacks, juices, coffee, tea and an assortment of champagnes and wines.

The Vdara Pool & Lounge is situated on the rooftop and offers stunning views of the City Center community and the Las Vegas Strip. Cabanas, Spa Cabanas and Daybeds are available on request. The Spa Cabanas offer basic massages and seasonal packages. Made-to-order cocktails, appetizers and gourmet tapas are served at the Pool & Lounge.

The Fitness Center features state-of-the-art cardio equipment outfitted with personal entertainment centers. Personal trainers and yoga instructors are available on request.

Check-Out: Thankfully, check out was quicker than the check-in process. However, our bill had multiple errors, but these were fixed quickly without any hassle and we were on our way.

Overall Impression: The penthouse was extremely comfortable and not having to walk through a casino each time we came or went was a nice bonus for me. The service was overall good and while the property did not blow us away like the Mandarin or the Cosmopolitan, it was an overall great stay and Vdara garners a rating of Bombastic.
