Osteria di Passignano – Tuscany Region, Italy: After a long day of exploring the wine region of Passignano, we stopped at a restaurant in Tuscany for dinner. We dined at Osteria di Passignano which was a one Michelin star winery restaurant.

Located at the large estate of Badia a Passignano in Chianti Classico region, this restaurant in Tuscany started as a wine shop by the Antinori family in Tuscany. With the success of the wine shop, the winery restaurant was opened by wine aficionado Marcello Crini and Allegra Antinori to cater the taste buds of Italian wine lovers from all over the world.

The whole place exuded a true Tuscan setting with brick and stucco structure, simple furniture, and a few wall decorations. Osteria di Passignano definitely stuck to its Tuscan roots when it came to the whole ambiance.

We were excited to try their dishes with their impressive wine list. We tried their tasting menu wherein each course was paired with their different wines. All in all, we were able to taste five different sets of dishes from Osteria di Passignano.

First, we had the Asparagus and Ricotta Tarte Tatin with Poached Quail Egg and Blue Cheese Fondue which was paired with a 2009 Bolgheri Vermentino. Next up was the Leek Risotto with Braised Veal-Tail Ragout served with a 2006 Badia a Passignano Riserva.

We also had the Passignano’s Grilled Lamb Cutlets served with Milk Wilted Spinach while paired with a 2007 Tignanello. The last dish, Suckling Bosco Del Bruciato Piglet, baked with a Savoy Cabbage Parcel, was paired with a 2007 Guado al Tasso.

The cheese course from the tasting menu was Passignano’s Sheep, Goat, and Cow Cheese served with 2006 Muffato della Sala.

To finish our tasting menu at Osteria di Passignano we had wild berry, kiwi, pineapple, and lemon sorbet.

The service at Osteria di Passignano was not that exceptional as well. We felt like we were being pushed out of the restaurant since the waiters were serving too fast and it seemed like they were in a hurry.

The wines from Osteria di Passignano were impressive without a doubt; true to their Tuscan roots of being home to the best Italian wines. But the dishes at the restaurant in Tuscany failed to really impress us. Everything was good, but none was exceptional. It was an experience I am happy had, but not sure if I would repeat it, but it I do recommend you give Passignano a try.

What I liked: Exceptional wine list, perfect Tuscan ambiance

What I didn’t like: Waiters seemed to be in a hurry, average tasting dishes

Rating: Bombastic
